SOUNDLAB

Experiments in space and sound

MURMUR is a unique and locally pertinent interactive soundscape that reflects upon the relationship between wildlife and human activity.

In the interim between the decomissio ing of the Waterbeach barracks and the start of its redevelopment as a new town the site became a haven for wildlife.

During this peaceful lull, when the site was left virtually undisturbed the barracks began to re-wild and quickly return to wilderness. Our local sound recordist, Richard Youell, spent many hours, night and day, documenting the flourishing and diverse wildlife within the site.

We have taken some of these fascinating sound samples and woven them into an interactive soundscape. Some of the best, and most inventive, local experimental sound artists have created for you an immersive sound laboratory where visitors can influence the soundscape by their movements and gestures.

Come and help create a unique requiem celebrating our local wildlife.

Visit MURMUR from 10am to 2pm on August 24th, 25th, 31st and September 1st, 7th and 8th
