An exploration of free improvisation and various strategies of composition and conduction. Inspired particularly by the music of the pianist Cecil Taylor, who always called his bands "units", the Cambridge Unit brings together a very talented bunch of local improvisers in some new ways. Expect melody, noise, rhythm, texture, and everything in between. This afternoon's performances will be a kind of open rehearsal, opening things up to the audience and offering some unusual insights into the way the music is put together.
